Yeah. She was happy to be back at the apartment, but she was kinda bummed at not being able to hunt like a wildcat anymore. I think she's happy to be back here.

Yeah. It's - it's kind of a long story, what happened to her. I could tell something was off when I first got there but I couldn't tell what exactly, you know? Aside from the furniture in my room being rearranged. Anyway, I was goin' through this pile of mail I had and there was a letter from her. Just the typical 'Hey how are you enjoying Japan' mom kinda checking in thing.

Did you ask her anything that you've wanted to ask her?

A little. She was in Italy so I didn't have enough time to actually see her, but I called her up. Mostly trying to see if she was happy, if she was sick at all, just things about her life. I never got to know her that well.

[Actually he worried the hell out of her because he talked with her on the phone for like six hours straight and sounded near crying the whole time.]

Apparently she was never sick in that world, so when my dad proposed she married him. I was actually a legitimate kid in that world.

Yeah. It was weird, but nice. When - uh, back in my world... the universe I'm from, I wasn't allowed to know she was my mom. Mafia family, bastard children from mistresses is kinda a big no-no. 'Course, she was half Japanese, so the whole 'hey you're an illegitimate kid' thing was a shocker to only me.

[It sounds rough from what he was hearing. He doesn't know how to respond, really. Other than just listen to him]

I'm glad that you got to talk to her.

Yeah. It was ... it was nice. She played the piano for me a little. She taught me how to play when I was younger. [he sighs, taking the cigarette out of his mouth briefly and looking at it, then putting it back in.]

Sorry to unload all this on you. I just... you're the only one I really feel comfortable talking to about this.

I just...don't know what to say half of the time.

I'm very happy that you got to experience that. I know that if I ever lost my mother, well, I don't know what any of us would do.

I would have gone with 'less angry at the world like it owes you something'. [He's not ENTIRELY without self-awareness. Still, he smiles a little.] I dunno, I always thought that - that if I had my mom, things would have been different. I would have been different. But ... it seemed like I was still pretty much the same, just for different reasons.
